What defines vintage, antique
and retro
Vintage, antique and retro are often used interchangeably, but they describe very different things. Antiques refer to items that are typically over 100 years old, valued for their age, rarity, and historical significance. Vintage pieces are usually between 20 and 99 years old, originating from a specific era and reflecting the style, materials, and craftsmanship of that time. They are authentic items made in the past, not reproductions. Retro is often mixed up with vintage. Think of the retro styles of the fifties and sixties, which have become popular again. There are two ways to look at it – buy vintage items from the fifties and sixties, or buy modern-made items in the style and colours of the time. From my point of view, the vintage wins every time, but there is always a place for an olive green wall or an orange couch in my opinion.
