This is vintage Gerber Gungnir with a satin stainless steel handle with an integral finger guard. The bottom of the handle is stamped GERBER GUNGNIR with the logo. Large diamond steel sharpening rod. 43 cm long. In 1939, Joseph Gerber founded Gerber Legendary Blades as a cutlery manufacturer in Portland, Oregon. The company continued to make exceptional quality kitchen knives (except for a brief period during WWII, when they made combat knives) until the 1970s. Gerber used tool steel, the highest quality for kitchen knives, which meant that the blades rarely needed sharpening. If they do, then this honing steel sharpener was the best. The Gerber Gungnir rod sharpener was named after 'Gungnir', the spear of Odin in Norse mythology.
