South African painter Luther Marais was born in 1935 in Port Elizabeth. He was greatly influenced by his family in the arts and music during his young years and went on to manage his father’s printing company. At the age of 21, his first painting was released. Although he never received any formal art training, his works are displayed in embassies and private collections worldwide. His oil paintings often depict life in the Cape, as seen in this one, which features an old-world charm and was painted in 2006. He passed away in 2010.
