These are usually the monogram of King Charles, C for Charles and R for Rex (meaning King). However, this is possibly the maker's mark or the household the mark was made for. It is an excellent example of heavy Victorian silverware from around the 1890s. The company Mappin & Webb Ltd. was founded in 1889.
