This stunning porcelain hand-painted set has four espresso cups and saucers, a coffee pot, a milk jug and a sugar bowl. It is very delicate in pristine condition. The extra cup has two chips (see images). Mark says it was made in Selb, Germany. In the early 1950s, Rosenthal, a German maker of fine china, looked to update their image and break into the American market. To do so, they employed the famous Raymond Loewy, who was and is one of the titans of 20th-century design. Raymond Loewy did three complete design lines with various patterns for Rosenthal in the mid-1950s – Classic/Modern, Continental and Form 2000. This set is his Form 2000 shape in the very popular Grasses Pattern. This pattern was produced from 1958 to 1986. (Loewy was the first designer to appear on the cover of Time magazine in 1949, and among his many designs is the shape of the original Coca-Cola bottle.) Coffee pot 16 x 19 cm, Demitasse cups 9 x 6 cm, Saucers 13 cm, Milk Jug 11 x 10,5 cm, Sugar Bowl with lid, 8 x 6 cm.
